This communication is in response to a letter written by Vermont Horse Council Equine Industry Chairperson, Heidi Krantz, to Anson Tebbetts in regard to inclusion of Equine Farm Businesses in the recent communication about drought impact. The survey can be found at:
Complete 2025 Agriculture Drought Impact Survey
VAAFM is asking Vermont’s agricultural producers to participate in the 2025 Agriculture Drought Impact Survey. The purpose of this survey is to capture the scale and location of drought related impacts experienced throughout the state in 2025. The survey will remain open to capture information on loss and damages until the deadline of December 15, 2025. Participants are welcome to submit more than one report, if they incur additional losses, but we request that they only report “new” impacts.

Subject: RE: Thoughts on recent Drought Impact Survey
Good morning,
Thank you for the note and feedback.
Equine operations came up as a question last week and we have offered the following guidance: Equine operations are welcome to fill out this survey – we ask that they select “livestock” for questions 7 and 8 and indicate “equine operation” in question 34.
This should capture the impact and need.
Copying Abbey and Scott if they would like to offer more suggestions. The survey is open until December so we should be able to capture the equine sector as we continue to message.
Thank you
Anson
